This week, our book will be "How To Catch The Easter Bunny" because this past long weekend was the Easter weekend. This lesson is designed to take around 30 minutes to complete.

Read Aloud

If you have the book at home - great! Please read this with your child. If not, here is a YouTube read aloud video.

(Read aloud starts at 0:07.)

Discussion Questions

Please take the time to ask your child questions about the story. Below are some sample questions (in black text) and answers (in red text) that you can ask your child. This will help you gauge their understanding and comprehension of the story. Students are welcomed and encouraged to re-visit the book at anytime.

  1. Tell me about the story. (Have your child share what happened in the story in a chronological order: beginning, middle, end.) The Easter Bunny is delivering Easter treats/eggs and there are many different traps trying to catch me. But, he doesn't fall for the traps and was able to deliver all the Easter treats/eggs.

  2. Who is E.B.? E.B. stands for the Easter Bunny.

  3. What are some of the traps that tried to catch the Easter Bunny? There was a box and stick trap, a hole in the ground trap, a dance floor with carrots trap, a fake rabbit trap, a pirate trap, a candy shooting machine trap, and a Bunny Tumbler 2.0 trap.

  4. What do you think these words mean: roam, bait, burrowing, brilliant? How do you know? (Answers will vary.) • Roam: to move about • Bait: food used to attract animals • Burrowing: digging a hole or tunnel underground • Brilliant: very smart or talented

  5. Is this story fiction or non-fiction? Why do you think that? This story is fiction because it is not real - animals cannot talk and they do not have Easter egg factories with little chicks to help them.

  6. Have you done an Easter egg hunt before? What was it like? (Answers will vary.)

Daily Edit

Directions

  1. Download these two documents: Week 2 Tuesday Passage A & B (Teacher-Parent Copy) and Week 2 Tuesday Passage B (Student Worksheet).

  2. Give Passage B to your child.

  3. Read Passage A aloud to your child (do not let them see it) while they follow along with Passage B.

  4. Read Passage B aloud to your child (have them follow with their finger, if needed).

  5. Read Passage A aloud to your child again while your child follows Passage B.

  6. Give your child time to edit Passage B with a pencil or a marker. * Note: If you are unable to print this out, you child can orally edit the passage instead.

  7. Review their edits and provide hints to help them finish it (e.g. What needs to be capitalized? What is at the end of a sentence? The vowel is saying its name, which means that there is a silent _?_ at the end of the word).

  8. Show your child Passage A and have them compare to see how they did.
