Today, we will be working on:
Daily Edit (5~10 minutes)
5-Minute Brain Break
Word Work (10~15 minutes) or Writing Extension (15~20 minutes)
As this week only has four days due to Easter Monday, I have had to change the work around a bit. So, for today, there will be an option to either work on Word Work or the Writing Extension activity. If your child wants a challenge, then they can do both.

Daily Edit
Directions
Download these two documents: Week 2 Wednesday Passage A & B (Teacher-Parent Copy) and Week 2 Wednesday Passage B (Student Worksheet).
Give Passage B to your child.
Read Passage A aloud to your child (do not let them see it) while they follow along with Passage B.
Read Passage B aloud to your child (have them follow with their finger, if needed).
Read Passage A aloud to your child again while your child follows Passage B.
Give your child time to edit Passage B with a pencil or a marker. * Note: If you are unable to print this out, you child can orally edit the passage instead.
Review their edits and provide hints to help them finish it (e.g. What needs to be capitalized? What is at the end of a sentence? The vowel is saying its name, which means that there is a silent _?_ at the end of the word. What makes an "ing" sound? Is ______ a special word? Then does it need to be capitalized?).
Show your child Passage A and have them compare to see how they did.
5-Minute Brain Break
Don't forget to take breaks in between work! It is important to get a breather while learning so our brain can continue to learn hard things for us.
Please refer to my 5-Minute Brain Break Ideas blog post if you are stuck on what to do.
Word Work
Please work with your child on completing the tasks below. Students are welcomed and encouraged to re-visit the story at anytime.
What words rhymes with these words? * Note: a rhyme is a word that has the same ending sound as another word. For example, bunny rhymes with sunny and funny. (Answers may vary.) • Bunny: funny, sunny • Rug: bug, dug, hug, jug, lug, mug, pug, tug, slug, plug • Hop: bop, pop, top, flop
Write a sentence with two words that rhyme with each other. (Answers will vary.) The bunny likes to play on a sunny day. There is a bug on the rug. • Adaptation: Your child comes up with a word and you help them think of a rhyming word. • Extension: Write another sentence with more details.
Draw a picture of your sentence(s).
Writing Extension
If you would like a quick refresher on what happened in the story, below is the YouTube read aloud video. Please pay attention to:
Who the main characters in the story are (characters)
Where the story is taking place (setting)
What the problem is (problem)
How the main character tried to solve the problem (key events)
How the problem was solved (solution)
(Read aloud starts at 0:07.)
Please complete the worksheet after reviewing the story. The Story Elements Template was made in such a way that students can either:
Draw a picture and write a short sentence to describe what they drew, or
Use the whole box to write
Adaptation: Discuss with your child about each story element prior to working on the worksheet
Adaptation: Have your child say the answers while you write it down for them
Extension: On the back, write about what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story
If you are unable to print out the worksheet, your child or you can write it down on a piece of paper instead, then take a picture of the work and upload it to their e-Portfolio on Portal. Or, you can simply discuss it orally with your child, then note that they did the work on their e-Portfolio with a comment on how they did.
Message from Ms. Zhu
Don't forget that there is no pressure to complete this work in one day. You can spread it out over the course of a few days. There is no pressure to get it completed in one sitting. Also, please remember to upload a picture of your child's work or of your child working on their e-Portfolios on Portal. Thank you.
