Week 8: Writing From Your Window (Day 1)

This week, we will be focusing on writing - specifically, writing about things outside our windows. I got this idea from a Pro-D Day workshop I went to and thought it was such a fun idea to help you practice your writing!

Directions

  1. Choose a window in your home.

  2. Look outside your window and draw what you see.

  3. Write to describe what you see outside your window.

  4. Try to use enough detail that I can see what you see.

  5. Upload to your e-Portfolio on Portal.

Tips

Use the poetic / literary devices you learned to make your writing more powerful and interesting:

  • Alliteration

  • Onomatopoeia

  • Simile

  • Metaphors

  • Personification

If you are stuck on how to start writing, here are some sentence starters that can help you:

  • Outside my window...

  • From my window, I can see...

  • Looking through my window, I can see...

My Example

Here is one that I've wrote.

Outside my east-facing window, the sun watches as the wind whispers and nudges the leaves on the branches of trees. The leaves sways gently like grandma's rocking chair. The chipped, brown fences stands tall and strong - their feet digs deep down into the dirt. The chirpy birds swoops down to nestle its feet against the soft blades of grass. They begin to poke around and asks the grass blades where the tastiest worms are. The grass blades ignores the birds' inquiries and continues to sunbathe under this beautiful spring day.
