How do I use "Description" as a Hook?

Look at the picture above and use your senses to describe the scene: What do you see, hear, smell, taste, feel? Make sure to use interesting adjectives to make your writing more powerful.

Directions

  1. Look at the picture and use a "powerful description" as a writing hook.

  2. Finish writing the rest of your short story based on the picture.

  3. Re-read your writing to edit it.

  4. Find a word or a phrase that you are really proud of and underline it.

  5. Check that you have spelled correctly the words you know.

  6. Check that you have taken a risk with unknown words and used them too.

  7. Upload a picture of your writing on your e-Portfolio.

My Example

I used this picture to write my hook and paragraph:

I followed the directions above and underlined the words and phrases that I thought were powerful and creative.

The soft, warm glow from the setting sun bounces off the abundant autumn-coloured grass. The thick forest runs alongside us as we hastily chase after the transparent giant. We can hear the giant panting, as if it's not used to such leisurely exercise. As we sprint after the see-through creature, the smell of the crisp air enters our noses and clears our mind - reminding us that we are on a mission to save our grandmother, so we must make haste before it's too late.
